Challenge

Annote is our own product, designed and built in-house at North Needle. Anyone who ships client work knows the pattern: the person who spots a bug is rarely the person who fixes it. Feedback arrives as a vague message or a screenshot with no context, followed by a long back-and-forth about which page, which browser and what was clicked. We set out to build a tool where anyone can click an element, say what's wrong, and hand developers a ticket that already carries the page, the console, the network and a likely cause.

Brand Identity & Visual Design

We gave Annote a calm, editorial identity that stands apart from typical developer tools. Warm paper and deep night plum set the mood, with Iris reserved for action. DM Sans carries the interface, Fraunces italic adds emphasis one word at a time, and JetBrains Mono labels the evidence. The voice is short, plain and a little dry.

Chrome Extension & Web App

The extension stays out of the way until it's needed. Start a session, click any element, then speak or type. AI turns the note into a titled, tagged ticket with the page, element, browser, console and network attached. Every ticket lands in a session in the web app, where teams resolve, assign, set priority, discuss with @mentions and follow every change in one activity feed.

Dev Tools gives every ticket two views: a readable summary for the team and the technical detail for engineers. AI analysis suggests the likely cause and cites its evidence, and it is always labelled for review. A whole session shares as one link that clients can open and comment on without an account, and secrets and common personal data are redacted on the page before anything is stored.

Website

We designed annote.ai around one promise: the fastest way to report a bug and the easiest to fix. A calm white page with dark product sections, real product moments instead of stock visuals, and every section answering one question a QA lead or developer would ask.

Social & LinkedIn

Launch content for Instagram and LinkedIn, built on the same system as the product: plum and paper slides, one italic word doing the work, and real product moments instead of stock visuals. Each post makes one point, from the useless bug report to a ticket a developer can act on.

Impact

  • A complete product designed and built end to end: Chrome extension, web app, AI, brand, website and social
  • Live and free to start on the Chrome Web Store, with a free Starter plan and paid plans for teams
  • Feedback anyone can give with no technical knowledge needed to file a report developers can act on
We built Annote because we lived this problem on client projects. It's the tool we wanted for our own QA, and now our team and clients report bugs with it every day.
